There are a variety of ways to keep gates safely shut. ADE Steel stocks a wide variety of latches to fit your needs. Cane Bolts (also called Drop Bolts) drop into a hole in the surface material to hold a gate in an open or closed position. Gravity Latches (pictured at right) automatically latch the gate when it is closed. Both Hasp and Gravity Latches provide a method to lock a gate.
